Lazy Acre Beef

Nestled amid the rugged mountains and sweeping valleys of Colorado, Lazy Acre Beef represents much more than just a cattle ranch—it’s a living legacy.

Founded in 1933, this fifth-generation family-owned and operated ranch has been a cornerstone of the state’s agricultural community. Led by veteran Levi, a man deeply rooted in discipline, commitment, and love for the land, Lazy Acre Beef is more than just a ranch—it’s a tradition the family has upheld for generations.

Quality is not a marketing slogan for Lazy Acre Beef; it’s a way of life. The ranch specializes in 100% Colorado Angus, reared in conditions that can only be described as pristine. They don’t just talk the talk about “Ranch to Table” – they walk the walk.

Their beef is as natural as it gets, reared without growth hormones or antibiotics. When you savor a steak from Lazy Acre, you taste fresh mountain air, cool creek water, and indomitable Colorado sunshine.

The ranch’s commitment to ethical animal husbandry is unwavering. At an altitude of 4,360 feet, they’ve learned to adapt and overcome unique challenges, fortifying the character of the cattle and the people caring for them.

King Mountain Cattle

In the scenic landscapes near Toponas, Colorado, lies a historic treasure that dates back to 1910: The Kirby Ranch. Now known as King Mountain Cattle LLC, this five-generation family ranch is a living testimony to the dedication and love for land and livestock.

Rick and Jennifer Kirby, alongside their children Taylor and Jed, are the latest stewards who have nurtured this ranch over the years. With 123 acres in McCoy and another 1,200-acre parcel situated at a high elevation, King Mountain Cattle LLC embodies tradition and innovation in cattle farming.

Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic’s meat shortage, King Mountain Cattle LLC began with the aim to provide quality meat at a fair price to their friends and neighbors. Their herd has now grown to 106 – and they continue to cater to a broader community without compromising their initial commitment to quality and fairness.

One remarkable addition to their portfolio came in 2020 when Rick and Jennifer seized the opportunity to introduce American Wagyu to their herds. The Tajima lineage—a renowned and highly prized Japanese Black cattle strain—forms the backbone of their Wagyu offering.

Noted for its unparalleled marbling and buttery texture, Tajima Wagyu is often graded at luxury levels such as A5, denoting supreme quality in terms of marbling and tenderness.

At The Butcher’s Hook, we believe in sourcing meat that tells a story—a story of legacy, quality, and community. King Mountain Cattle LLC is a ranch that checks all those boxes and more.

Their deeply rooted history as stewards of their land aligns with our own commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. The exceptional quality of their Angus and American Wagyu beef offers diverse flavors and textures that we are proud to present to our customers.

Buckner Family Farm

Founders Clint and MaryKay Buckner and their young “farmhands” Amelia and Levi embody the state’s fresh, high-altitude air and vibrant sunshine. That’s why we love sourcing from Buckner Family Farm.

The Buckners bring community-focused, farm-to-table farming and ranching to life. Their philosophy is deeply rooted in their Colorado upbringing, making them an ideal match for The Butcher’s Hook’s sustainability and community engagement values.

Black and Gold Family Farms (BGFF)

Hailing from Akron, Colorado, BGFF specializes in raising pasture-centered Berkshire pigs. With access to creek water, shade, and multiple-acre paddocks, the Berks roam freely 365 days a year.

The farm’s rotational system across 160 acres ensures the pigs enjoy a rich, varied diet—grass, wheat, barley, rye, clover, and chicory—contributing to the meat’s exceptional flavor. As a 100% drug-free operation, BGFF aligns perfectly with The Butcher’s Hook’s commitment to quality and ethical sourcing.
